RTA Kitchen Cabinets
A common term you might see when beginning to search for kitchen cabinets for your home is “RTA.” RTA means “ready to assemble” cabinets. And on first thought, this might not seem like such a great idea for kitchen cabinets, but if you know what to look for, an RTA cabinet solution may be right for your kitchen and your budget.
As with any home product, there are many different levels of quality in the construction of the RTA cabinet. The main thing you want to look for is that your cabinet box which fits into the wall is constructed of plywood, a plywood or solid wood back that will attach to wall studs securely, and you want the cabinet face, stiles and doors constructed of solid wood.
Also you want to make sure you purchase RTA cabinets that use a cam lock system to hold the cabinet box together – don’t go for the ones that use glue, staples or regular screws – these will not last as long. The cam lock system incorporates a rotating locking system that is very sturdy.
If you make sure these elements are in place, you should end up with very sturdy cabinets that can be finished or painted however you choose for the look you want in your kitchen.
